Until I saw the valley that you’re “swinging” over,
I hadn’t been scared. Plus, there was a freefall of 180 feet before
the rope would stretch taut for you to then swing. Ah! Still, I was
determined to conquer my fear and do it. First, we all went over the
ravine on the zip line. That experience was not frightening at all,
especially because I’ve done a shorter cable slide previously to
today, but it was still fun; I hung upside down for a bit. 🙂

Next, the formidable, exhilarating, bIg SwInG. Everybody
who wanted to do it went tandem, except for Garrett due to the odd
number of people. Cait was my partner. Our turn came. By this time,
I’d already watched about 6 people go, and what I saw scared me. As
they hooked us up to the ropes and such, I asked our friends, who
were watching, to tell me some jokes with the purpose of distracting
my mind from what we were about to do, so I’d stop psyching myself
out.

It worked…along with God answering my prayer for
courage, I’m sure. Placing our feet on the edge of the platform, the
ready to go from the staff, I counted to 3, and then we were
falling…and screaming.

At first, I was still afraid/shocked about falling, but
for the rest of the way down, I reveled in the sensations
accompanying the falling. Nearing the ground, the rope jerks before
we begin to swing back and forth, like a pendulum, over the trees,
which is fun until the harness starts digging into my skin.

The whole experience was pretty much amazing. It was
well worth the aches I discovered the following two days.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that a gorgeous waterfall
tumbled down upon itself into a small pool underneath the platform…
right next to where we had fallen.
